Get the critical information you need about the new Emergency Broadband Benefit Program—including eligibility information and how to apply.

What is the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program?

The Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, has implemented a program in which households struggling to pay their internet bills can apply for emergency assistance and receive up to $50 per month toward participating broadband services and up to $75 per month for each household in Tribal lands.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit program, also known as the EBB, provides a one-time discount of up to $100 for devices—including a laptop, desktop, or tablet— when the household contributes more than $10 and less than $50 toward the ticket price. All discounts are subject to availability. Keep reading to find out if your household is eligible.

Kinetic by Windstream is proud to be a part of the Emergency Broadband Benefit program and will offer this service in every state Kinetic by Windstream is available.

Windstream is set to participate as soon as the FCC goes live with this program. For news about the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, visit the FCC site

Am I Eligible for the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program?

Qualification depends on either the total income of the household or meeting one of the following criteria:

  • A member of your household qualifies for any of the FCC’s support programs from Lifeline, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or the Federal Public Housing Assistance.
  • Your household experienced substantial loss of income since February 29, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible income qualifies if it fell below $99,000 for single filers or $198,000 for joint filers.
  • Households that have children currently participating in free or reduced-price school breakfast and lunch programs set forth by the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision for the year 2019–2020 or 2020–2021.
  • A household member has received a Federal Pell Grant during the prior or current year.
  • Households that currently qualify or are participating in existing low-income or COVID-19 relief programs set forth by the FCC.
  • Households that currently participate in at least one Tribal specific program—including Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or Tribal Head Start. For a full list of Tribal programs that qualify you for the Emergency Broadband Benefit program, click here.
